Social Work
As a person who strongly believes in socially inclusive, humane medical practices, Dr. Thayil has instituted a trust named "SHALOM Charitable Fund". Through this trust, he gives financial assistance to the poor and needy heart patients. The fund required for all the activities of the trust is raised from the proceeds received from sales of his books as well as the remunerations received from the articles published by him in various print media. Donations from well-wishers and patients also go into the corpus of the trust, which is solely operated by Dr. Thayil.
His other social initiatives include:
- Organized / Participated in more than 75 medical camps over the last three decades.
- Offer free medical camps (Mass Epidemic) to the Public and Orphanage

- Daughters: Annmary BA, MBA - married to Jithin Josey Punnapuzha B.E., MBA, PMP, CBAP - Associate Director, LOWES corporation, Charlotte, North Carolina. Blessed with five children: Therese Maria, Joseph, Cecelia, George Jr. and John Paul.
- Elismary B.Com., MBA - works at Yahoo as senior quality coordinator - married to Dr Julian Joseph Puthiyaparampil, MBBS, DCh., DNB, MRCPCH (UK), Paediatrician, Craigavon Area hospital , N Ireland, UK. Blessed with one child: Jude Joseph.
